Breaking "Forever"
He ground his teeth and tightened his grip. The heat was so intense that he felt completely drenched in sweat. His head felt light, his heart rate was out of control and his breathing started getting heavier. The pressure was consuming his mind, yet he knew that it was right then when he could least give up. He opened his eyes... mountains to the right and to the left and nothing but dull gray clouds filling the firmament above. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary, almost as if he were alone. He had come to this place many times before, he knew what it could throw at him, and so he stood there waiting. A faint glimmer of light caught his attention. It was so sudden it would have been easy to miss, however he now knew that victory was in reach. No more than a second passed and the loud clanging of steel against steel echoed throughout the entire valley.
"What? How could you possibly know...?"-said the female attacker at the shock of being discovered. "I'm sorry to tell you this"-he said-"but it seems that the title once again belongs to me!" As he finished this sentence he swiftly moved behind the attacker with a disorienting maneuver that made her flinch and before she knew it his long sword had sliced her body from side to side, completely piercing her light armor. In a mere instant her body had vanished into thin air, leaving small particles of blue light in its place. Then everything went black. The sound of the mountain winds faded and was slowly replaced by the cheering of a crowd. Then he felt that the contraption that was placed over his eyes had been pulled off, revealing a room full of people all staring toward the stage on which he found himself. He was then helped out of the capsule-like simulator he was in by a couple of people he vaguely remembered. Directly in front of him lay another simulator, very similar to the one he was in, and the same process was repeated on that one as well. The only difference was that inside the capsule was another person; a girl with long auburn hair and blue eyes came out of the machine. She faced in his direction and quickly walked toward him with a smile on her face.
"Wow, Luis, no matter how much I practice, I just can't beat you at this game!"-she said-"Well, I guess you just became two-time world champion for a reason, huh? Congratulations!" "Thanks a lot, Michelle"-answered Luis awkwardly with a smile-"though you almost had me back there and considering you made it to the world finals along with me means you're not bad yourself." She blushed as she heard such words coming from her friend’s mouth and quietly backed out as the tournament’s host approached Luis to officially declare him the winner and champion. The man grabbed and lifted his right arm and shouted through the microphone "Give it up for the world champion!!" Said shout was answered by the crowd’s wild roar with excitement. Luis, for one, felt that nothing in the entire universe could even start to give him such a good feeling as what he was feeling that instant.
The next morning Luis woke up in his room, his new trophy standing on a shelf right beside the one he had gained last year. He readied himself for college and headed out. On his way he encountered a familiar face. It was one of his closest friends, named Michael, which he had noticed had not come to any of the latest gaming conventions and tournaments. "Hey Michael, how’ve you've been?"-he greeted his friend-"I haven't seen you in quite a while!" "I know"-responded his friend-"it's good to see you again." Then something struck him as strange, it was definitely Michael standing before him, but something about him seemed different. He couldn't put his finger on it, but there was something odd about his friend. In the end, Luis decided to keep such curiosity to himself; instead, there was something else he wanted to know. "I haven't seen you in any of the conventions lately, dude."-he said-"What have you been doing, why isn't a gamer like you coming to these things?" Michael turned his eyes away from his friend for an instant, and then quickly stared at him again. "I'm not a gamer anymore, man."-said Michael with a friendly grin. Luis’s eyes shot open out of shock. "What? How come?! I'm two times world champion, yet I never could beat you in the simulator machine; how can someone so talented simply toss games aside like that?!"
"Listen"-said Michael-"I haven't tossed video games aside completely: I still play casually, about four hours per week, but games just don't fill my heart the way they use to, I've found something much better." "You in love or something, dude?"-asked Luis in a slightly mocking tone. "Yes"-responded Michael-"I'm in love with God." "In love with... huh?"-said a confused Luis-"Why... how would you even do that?" Michael reflected before giving his answer. "We've known each other since middle school, right?"-said Michael-"How do you remember me to be?" Luis started recalling the days now past and all the unforgettable moments they brought with them. "You were kind of a player back then, going after every single girl that caught your attention in the slightest manner"-he said. "That's only the surface, Luis. Truth is, all those years I was hiding an even bigger issue..."-stated Michael-"I was an addict."
Luis's eyes opened even wider than before and he nearly fell to his knees upon hearing this. How could one of his closest friends have gone through something like that and he completely ignored the fact?! "I couldn't help it"-said Michael-"I may have been smiling and laughing, but I was dying on the inside. Every time I "cured" myself, my body felt momentary pleasure, but I felt like the lowest filth in the planet. I didn't tell anyone either and I hid it especially well from my parents, so I felt completely alone in my crisis." Luis remained quiet. He didn't know what to say; what could he say? His friend continued: "Life felt like something I was dragging more than something I should enjoy, I told myself timeless times what a hypocritical, lowlife, dirty scum I was; I was lost and hopeless. But one day, when I had taken my daily dose, I realized I couldn't stay like this, so I started trying many methods to escape this addiction; all of them failed… until I met Jesus."
"He gave me hope, something which I completely lacked, so I gave Him full control over my life; what had I to lose? But instead of “losing” I won, for one special day He did it: God completely broke the chains from hell that imprisoned my soul and tore off my sin from the root." "What's that mean?"-asked Luis. "It means"-said Michael-"that in one instant I was completely free. Not only from that addiction, but from many other things that were tying my soul to hell that I didn't even know I had. Everything in my life changed that day and I want everyone to feel the same thing I did. That's why, if you don't have a church to go to, Luis, I'm cordially inviting you to visit mine. You may think that right now you don't need God in your life, but I assure you: once you let Him in, you'll know that absolutely everything in your life is better when Jesus Christ lives in your heart!"

[Jesus replied: I tell you for certain that anyone who sins is a slave of sin! And slaves don't stay in the family forever, though the Son will always remain in the family. If the Son gives you freedom, you are free! -John 8:34-36]

END… OR NEW BEGINNING?
Well, it's been quite a LONG while since I last posted anything here on DA, but I'm finally back! I wrote this story, and I planned to share it with my friends, but first I wanted to publish it here. I wrote it around some of the characters of a story I wrote when I was still in middle school, but I gave the story a completely new twist. I mixed the life of the characters with real experiences that happened in my life and the result was this work of fiction based on real life events. I know I still lack writing skills (plus it's been a while since I actually wrote something that ended up liking), but what's important isn't really the level of eloquence I posses, but the very important message I want to bring. I hope all who read this can reflect on what's really the most important thing in our life. Comments are always welcome, may God bless you :D
